OPENUU (“Open, you! You!”) is an international award-winning design studio with experience in architecture, interior, exhibition, branding, and product design. OPENUU established their presence in Hong Kong in 2012. The design duo engages clients to balance function and design, delivering uniquely urban spaces for all to enjoy. The husband and wife team is sough-after by clients to create multifunctional projects, and adapts to challenging interiors. The design team delivers unique design visions, and creates innovative spaces. Our clients include hotels, coliving spaces, restaurants, and retail.
Since Chou and Lim moved their business to Hong Kong in 2012, OPENUU has been awarded ‘Best of Year’ firm by Interior Design Magazine four times; and bagged the prestigious Will Ching Design Prize in April 2019 — awarded for ‘original and excellent’ design by small companies with up to five employees.
Caroline Chou
Design Director
Caroline Chou is the Design Director of award-winning interdisciplinary firm OPENUU. Originally born in Texas, Chou spent her early years shuttling between Taiwan and the U.S. — where she later went on to study architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design. Along with husband (and OPENUU founder) Kevin Lim, Chou has become something of a marquee name on the burgeoning Hong Kong design/architecture scene.
As Design Director/Partner, Caroline brings experience ranging from small retail spaces and dynamic F&B spaces to large-scale residential and commercial towers in Hong Kong, including H.Bonaire and LT commercial building. She also received Interior Design’s Best-of-Year recognition in 2017 for her work as the Design Lead on Mean Noodles, as well as the prestigious Will Ching Design Award in 2019. In 2019, Caroline received recognition for 40 under 40 Designer Award in China (Hong Kong) 中國設計傑出青年, by Guangzhou Design Week.
Kevin lim

Kevin Lim founded OPENUU in 2011. He was born in Massachusetts and spent his life in Hong Kong and the United States. He received his Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University’s College of Architecture, Art & Planning and an Associate of Applied Science from Le Cordon Bleu. Honing in on his expansive educational background in design and architecture and the culinary industry, Kevin worked in the architectural office of T.A.T. of Boston, Massachusetts and as a chef in the kitchen of Blue Ginger of Wellesley, Massachusetts, before co-founding the OPENUU design studio and establishing OPENUU’s presence in Hong Kong.
Now, as Managing Director, Kevin has spearheaded, managed, and delivered an extensive portfolio of OPENUU projects that have won four Best-of-Year Awards by Interior Design magazine, along with Perspective magazine’s 40-under-40 Award, and 40 under 40 Designer Award in China (Hong Kong) 中國設計傑出青年, by Guangzhou Design Week. Additionally, Kevin has continued to advocate of the value of architecture through the AIA, where he serves as the 2019 President of the AIA Hong Kong Chapter.
